Bhumisparsha Mudra Buddha 25" high

Carved in the style of late 17th century Ayutthaya art period of ancient Thailand, this adorned Buddha sits in the "Bhumisparsha" or Earth mudra posture upon an elaborately decorated throne. Gautama Buddha used the Bhumisparsha gesture to summon the earth as witness to his attainment of Buddhahood. The gesture signifies the state of enlightenment reach by the Buddha after meditating under the bodhi tree day and night for four weeks.

The Buddha was carved in Thailand in teak wood and finished with a rich dark bronze-like patinas and 24 kt gold accents. This remarkable statue captures the look and feel of museum quality sculptures typical of the Ayutthaya art period.

The Buddha is 25" high x 12" wide.
