This masterful work of art is carved from solid teak wood in Northern Thailand. The "Bhumisarsha" or Earth Mudra Buddha is a wonderful example of Burmese folk art. The right hand reaches down to call the Earth to witness Gautama's attainment of Buddhahood. The style of the carving originated in Burma in the late 13th century and has remained a popular style to this day among Thai folk wood carvers.
The Burmese style Buddha is 35" high x 17" wide.
